Model 1917 ejector

A compact but low-powered pistol of locked blowback design. Introduced in 1917 and produced for only one year, it is almost identical in design to the larger .32 caliber Model 4. The only difference is the location of the ejector port, extractor and trigger extension. Made for concealment by WWI German officers.

BTW, the 1915 and 1917 used the same ejectors as most of the 1907 versions. The .32 and .380 pistols of the same period use the same ejectors. Basic rule -- you should be able to use a later version ejector on an earlier pistol, but the early version ejector may not work well on a later pistol. Bill

Sep 01, 2005 · Smith & Wesson had already patented a way to use rimless ammunition in revolvers it was dusted off and S&W offered to produce a version of their 2nd Model Hand Ejector for the military. The Colt revolver used the same chamber spacing on their revolvers so contracts were let for both companies to produce what became known as the M1917 revolver.
Smith & Wesson 2nd Model Hand Ejector .44 Special caliber revolver. 2nd Model made approximately 1917 with 6 ½” Pre S&W barrel. Bore has strong rifling with corrosion in the grooves. Metal has a thinning blue turning to patina. Grips are worn, no cracks or chips. Good overall condition.
Nov 09, 2018 · The Model 1917 Smith & Wesson, as the gun was now called, featured a blued finish, case-hardened hammer and trigger, 5½-inch barrel, smooth walnut grips and a lanyard ring on the butt. As well as standard Smith & Wesson markings, the gun was stamped “United States Property” beneath the barrel in front of the ejector rod and “US/Army/Model/1917” on the base of the butt.
The I-frame revolver in the photo above is a .32 Hand Ejector Third Model produced some time between 1911-1917. It has a factory nickel finish, a 3.25" barrel, and the factory hard rubber grips are in unusually good condition for their age.

The Hand Ejector, 2nd Models were given the military designation of Model 1917. All were fitted with 5-1/2-inch barrels, lanyard rings and smooth walnut grips. Finish and sights were the same as for the Brit's contract revolvers. Production of Model 1917's was enormous.

The 45 ACP Model 1917 was a variation of the 44 Hand Ejector, 2nd Model. WWI broke out in Europe in 1914, and S&W was pretty sure Colt would have its hands full producing enough Model 1911 45 ACP Semi-Automatic pistols.

Eddystone marked stock, bolt and ejector with a WW2 JA (Johnson Automatic Barrel. No rust or pitting on the metal and it has excellent military parkerized finish.
